Industrial and Urban Symbiosis – a Missing Link in the Sustainability Discourse?
Mats Eklund, Professor Environmental Technology and Management at Linköping University, gave a very informative lecture about industrial and urban symbiosis. He gave this lecture as part of a masterclass organised by the Paper and Board Institute (VNP) in the Netherlands, 23 April 2021.
Professor Eklund showed many examples of successful symbiosis projects in Sweden, where agriculture, municipalities, and industrial processes are connected by many mass and energy streams. These projects reduce global warming gas emissions significantly, while creating value for the partners. Major success factors for these cases are capacities for relations, knowledge, and mobilisation (funding).
