Business and Sustainable Development Goals
As a partner of De Groene Zaak I attended a masterclass on Business and Sustainable Development Goals. Here is my highlight os this masterclass:
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) to be reached by 2030 were launched in in the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit, in New York, 25th of September 2015. These goals can be seen as the successor of the SD Millenium goals for 2020. The latter, by the way, were already reached in 2015. Given that success, the fact the SDG’s have a global reach, and that already in 2015 41 % of the CEO’s globally said that they would integrate the SDG’s in their strategy within 5 years, it is likely that the SDG’s will be reached before 2030.
In the first masterclass PWC showed in a very simple A4 sheet, how the 17 SDG’s can be linked to each step in the value chain of any business. We practised with the sheet and indeed could identify links of specific SDG’s with specific value chain steps of our own businesses, and within half an hour.
More information on the SDG’s can be found on the website of the UN: http://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/sustainable-development-goals/
