Enzymatic biodiesel production proven in laboratory
Biodiesel can be produced from a plant oil and methanol using a immobilised enzyme system
Miftahul Ilmi has proven experimentally that biodiesel can be produced from a plant oil and methanol using a immobilised enzyme system. This new process avoids the consumption of alkaline and acid and the production of a waste aqueous stream containing salt. The immobilisation of enzymes avoids the use of a separation step to recover the enzyme. The enzyme can be produced from a by-product of the plant oil, seed-cake.
Details of his experimental set-up and results can be found in his PhD thesis, which was successfully defended 24th of March 2017 and is now available: http://www.rug.nl/research/portal/files/40426810/Title_and_contents_.pdf
