Guido Frenken CCO of ENGIE presented Balancing Technological Advancements, Leadership and Societal Stress towards a Sustainable Society. He stressed that cooperation between partners was key to successful innovations. He showed such successful cooperation to obtain an emission free transport of beer by barges driven by green electricity in the Netherlands by the new formed company Zes. The company “Zes” was founded by ING, ENGIE, Wärtsilä, Port of Rotterdam Authority. The Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management supported this first step in the transition to emission-free inland shipping.

Guido presented this in the one-day symposium, The challenges of electrification, 4th of March 2021, organized by the Technologisch Gezelschap, TU Delft.  It was a pleasure to attend this well organized online symposium.
